The snow is not completely gone, but we are pretty sure there will be a lot of garbage left behind when it finally melts. Which is why REAL encourages members of the community to take a couple of hours to help clean up the litter around town during Pitch In Smiths Falls, happening this year from April 15 to 29. This will be the 56th year for Pitch In Canada; we are proud that our community continues to take part in this nation-wide effort to keep our community clean and protect our natural environment.
Pitch In supplies will be available at the REAL Deal Store starting Wed. April 5. If you or your group can specify where you will be working, you can let us know when you pick up your bags. We have a list of suggestions on our Ptich In page if you need ideas. If you are going with a group, it is recommended that you check that site prior to setting out. Someone else may have already picked up there, so you can choose another spot that needs some work.
If there are young people in your group, there is a Pitch In bingo card to try. We also welcome photo submissions and will be awarding prizes. Please ensure you have permission from people in the photo.
Closing off the cleanup campaign on April 29 will be a Shoreline Cleanup led by Jake Wilson. Volunteers should meet at the Bascule Bridge parking lot at 10 am. or at the Jasper Road boat launch (near Eric Hutcheson Road) at 1 pm. Please preregister by email with Jake, as we have additional sites in mind that can be completed if we have more people.
Don’t forget to let us know how you did using our online Pitch In Response Form. More details are available on the Pitch In page of our website.
