REAL has acquired a Vitamix FoodCycler through the Town of Smiths Falls Food Waste Diversion Municipal Pilot Program.  The trial period is over, and REAL is willing to lend it to others so they can get an idea of whether it would work for their household.  One hundred Smiths Falls residents took part in the pilot, so there are no doubt more people curious to give the device a try.  The FoodCycler is a countertop composter that grinds and dries kitchen food scraps into usable compost in a just a few hours, reducing the waste volume by about 90%.   

The lending period will be three weeks (or less).  Should there by high demand for the FoodCycler, we will give priority to  REAL members and Tool Library members over non-members, but otherwise we will just take requests in order.  You do not need to be a Smiths Falls resident.  Currently the device will become available the last week of July.  If you would like to borrow it or have questions, contact Barb at [email protected] or (613) 283-9966.  The REAL Deal Store will be the pickup and drop-off point, so that will need to be done Wednesday through Saturday, 10 to 5.
