REAL will be planting two beds of pollinator friendly plants at the Smiths Falls Town Square in late June. A detailed plan has been drawn up by Lashley and Associates, and we are busy trying to source the various species required. Some are hard to find, and some are hard to find in the necessary quantities and sizes. A few others might be in home gardens, and we are hoping to reduce costs somewhat by appealing for plant donations. We will be making substitutions only if necessary! Here is what we are missing (list updated June 20):
Turtlehead (Chelone glabra/Chelone obliqua) – need 5 in total
Spotted Deadnettle ( Lamium maculatum White Nancy) (need 5)
Gaillardia (Gaillardia grandiflora “Fanfare Blaze (need 5)
White wood aster (need 7)
Bottlebrush grass (Elymus Hystrix) (large needed)
Painted daisy (Tanacetum coccineum “Robinsons pink”)
White trillium (Trillium grandiflorum) (need 15)
We also would like for our native garden:
Jacobs Ladder (Polemonium reptans)
If you have any of the above to donate, or if you notice them in a garden centre, please contact Donna at [email protected] or (613) 283-2254. Thanks for your help!
